● Thematic Areas of Research-ActionThis thematic area supports the development of sustainable mountain economies, with a focus on economic diversification, local entrepreneurship, agri-food systems, value chains and sustainable livelihoods. It addresses the need to revitalise productive systems, strengthen local value creation and support forms of entrepreneurship rooted in the resources, identities and capacities of each place.
Protected Designations of Origin, Geographical Indications, experimental tourism, smart villages and Participatory Guarantee Systems are especially relevant for territories seeking to valorise agricultural production based on agro-biodiversity heritage. Its fields of action include sustainable agri-food systems, agroecological transition, value chain development, agribusiness, mountain tourism, digital innovation, sustainable landscape management and the protection and restoration of agrobiodiversity.
Within this area, MountMed promotes place-based and community-led projects that support local economies, enhance the competitiveness of mountain products, encourage innovation and create new opportunities for people who live, work or wish to return to mountain territories.
