MountMed is a non-profit research-action institute dedicated to Mediterranean island mountain regions. Based in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus, it connects scientific research, local knowledge, education, policy dialogue and field action to support mountain communities in shaping sustainable, resilient and self-determined futures.
MountMed Knowledge Network comprises a dynamic, interdisciplinary community of researchers from France, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, and Cyprus specialising in rural and mountain areas. This capacity is strengthened through collaboration with academic, research and social institutions, entrepreneurship, public authorities, as well as through active engagement in European and international networks. Mountain actors and institutions are central to this network.

Its work is organised around Research, Education and Action, ensuring that knowledge does not just stay in the lab but returns to these territories as practical, place-based transformation.
For MountMed, Mediterranean island mountain regions are more than just landscapes; they’re strategic territories of life, production, culture, learning and innovation. Troodos is the Institute’s reference territory, the place where international mountain agendas, the Cyprus mountain policy framework, and local community action all meet in practice.
